Makana’s Milk Depot & Dispensary
Donor Milk Purchase
If you are looking to purchase donor milk, contact Melissa to check on milk availability and schedule a time to pickup. I can accept cash and credit payments. Unfortunately, I am unable to bill your insurance at this time. Each 4oz frozen bottle of donor milk is $20.
Great news! There is no longer a need to provide a prescription from your doctor for donor milk and you may purchase as many bottles as you like at one time- there is no longer a limited of 10 bottles.
Parents may obtain donor milk before or after delivery.
Melissa will provide Donor Milk instructions and information on safe storage and thawing. You’ll even get a free cooler bag to carry your precious milk home!
Banked donor milk is often purchased for NICU babies, Adopted babies, Foster babies, Surrogate babies, as temporary supplementation while mom increases Low Milk Supply, and for babies who have a Formula Intolerance.
Pasteurized banked donor human milk is recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics as the second best form of nutrition for a premature infant, with mothers’ own milk being the gold standard.
Donate Breastmilk
Complete the online donor interest form. Milk Bank WGL will reach out to complete a 10-15 minute phone screening. This “prescreen” will cover general health information, milk storage, lifestyle factors, and more. If you are a candidate for donation, we will send you our full donor application.
Complete the full donor application and consent forms.
Milk Bank WGL will arrange for blood testing at no cost to you.
Once you are approved, Milk Bank WGL will give you a donor number! You can expect a call from one of their donor screeners with your donor number and drop off instructions. Then you can contact Melissa to work out a time to drop off your frozen breast milk!

Mothers’ Milk Bank WGL collects, screens, processes and distributes donated human milk. Donors are screened before milk is accepted. Once an approved donor’s frozen milk arrives at the milk bank, it is thawed, pooled with other donors and the pasteurized. After processing, the milk is tested for contamination, frozen and then stored. This milk is then primarily shipped to ordering hospitals for premature or ill babies but 20% is also made available to parents for purchase in the community from milk dispensaries like Makana Breastfeeding!
Mothers’ Milk Bank WGL also offers comprehensive and compassionate support for mothers when they wish to donate their stored breast milk after the unwelcome loss of their baby.
